This last idea to rally together and collect a list of their advertisers is a very good one. Count me in. I suggest that we point the advertisers to our own new email providers, with the explanation that we, and many others, no longer feel we can trust Excite to provide efficient (or even functional) service, and have bailed out, left, vamoosed!

I tried the message filters idea, and the problem has either affected this feature's functionality, or (perhaps more likely) Excite has disabled it to keep us from easily ending our relationship. I don't care how hard they make this transition, I am a HISTORY LESSON for Excite.

diplaced excite users please consider rallying with me by compiling the list of advertisers who buy space on excite and instruct them to boycott excite until excite fixes (hopefully reverts back to their original) email system.

do you people have any sense at all? I have been unable to access my email for 2+ days now (TUE 6/29/09 through present). nor have you bothered to place any sort of explanation/warning to the outage on the sign in page so we don't repeatedly waste our time trying to login - I had to go to the FAQ page and insert my dilemma only to discover I am not alone in this email outage.

I'm really not a profane, impatient, complaining, intimidating lunkhead - but I am at my wits end here. you "upgraded" which by all accounts has turned out to be a downgrade, degrade, no grade as far as userability is concerned. if one can't access their email, let alone get into their email account to get to their address book to let people know they are having issues because YOU are having issues, what is the point of email? WE CAN'T EMAIL!!!!! DO YOU GET IT?!!! YOU ARE AN EMAIL PROVIDER! YOU ARE NOT PROVIDING EMAIL! if you want us to go elsewhere, then by all means TELL US! profanely or otherwise.

I am unemployed/laid off for 16+ months, and trying to get work with email being the primary conduit. it's not a matter of "apologizing for any inconvenience" as stated in the FAQ section - you are costing me a livelihood! yet, those responsible for choosing this ill-fated "upgrade" and the company you have outsourced it to, are happily employed and go on about their day. please consider hiring me to be your ineffective staff member. or simply take my advice: return to the original system - put your fear aside and just do it already. NO ONE IS HAPPY.

in the meantime, I will compile a list of your advertisers and rally the displaced excite users to petition those companies into cancelling their accounts with you.

if you even read this or care to respond, remember, my excite account doesn't work, so try my backup email at XXXX@XXX.NET. should be interesting to see if you are even reading this.....

I would try your forwarding idea if I could log into the darned thing. I received a canned reply that they know something is wrong, and will try to correct it "as soon as possible." Really big help, that.

My test messages appear not to have landed there, and may be lost, just like all the other mail I am not receiving due to their mess-up. I have received some error messages, indicating some complaints have bounced, as well, but at least one did get through, prompting their response mentioned above. What a horrendous mess they have propagated. The truth is, they deserve it, and we don't. Just wish I had not set up all those email reply messages, to go to my excite account. Crap. Oh, sorry, that's redundant, since I just said "excite account."

EXCITE email STILL SUCKS!!!

I haven't been able to access the account June 29th, 30th, July 1st, 2009...

This is inexcusable in the internet age. The ONLY reason I haven't left completely is because I haven't fully educated people on my new address at Yahoo. Which by the way is a pretty good alternative if you use Yahoo's "classic" email mode.

I hope Excite loses everyone after this major outage. They deserve it.

I agree about Excite email. I have a perfectly good computer with plenty of memory and performance, yet when I use IE, which is obviously what they want you to use, because my Firefox doesn't work with it, it still is intermittent in its performance. Sometimes, it only will display "inline" other times it pops up separately. I am about to dump this email account because it is not worth the hassle. When will the people of Excite do something to fix it or who can we get ahold of to tell them we are leaving en masse?

Excite really needs to pull its finger out and hire more competant staff. It started out really well back in the 90's and was up there with the likes of Yahoo!, MSN, AOL and Google in relation to providing free email accounts. I don't access my email all that often largely because I don't use it for too many things at present, but I really do hope that the people at the company read this blog and listen to the people who are supporting them. Unless they take steps to rectify the problems they will be out of business within the next five years.

After using excite since '99, it's now just my backupmail, and not even very good at that.
I can only conclude that it is a deliberate effort to drive away email users. They cant seriously expect people to want to stay with an interface like this.
Someone did the math and worked out they werent making money off free acounts anymore, and rather than just close up shop, they're bleeding us for a bit of ad revenue before we leave.

I created a forwarding rule to send the email to Gmail, which I can read it via IMAP or on the web.

After a few months, I will let it lapse by never, ever again logging in to Excite.

I just had to vent, I am so pissed at EXCITE, (not much to be "excited" about)I can never read my emails takes forever to download most of the time it freezes up, I can't even delete my junk mail, it rarely recognizes me, and like everyone else I have all my contacts and important saved items that, alas, I can't even get to. Forget trying to contact them, they never reply, I guess they are as clueless on what to do as the rest of us. I wonder if they have read any of these comments left by disgruntled members or are they too busy finding more idiot advertisers to buy into their stupid ass company. I hate to do it but I too will be leaving EXCITE after 7 years like many others.....
